A bill to improve the protection and registration of geographical indications used to identify products.

(1) The Geographical Indications of Goods (Registration and Protection) Act, 1999 is the official name of this law.
(2) It encompasses all of India.
(3) It shall take effect on the date that the Central Government may designate by publication in the Official Gazette; different dates may be set for various provisions of this Act, and any reference in any such provision to the commencement of this Act shall be interpreted to mean the effective date of that particular provision.
