THE PATENTS ACT, 1970 ACT NO. 39 OF 1970

An Act to update and harmonise the legislation governing patents

(1) The Patents Act, 1970, may be referred to as this Act.
(2) It covers the entirety of India.
(3) It shall take effect on the date1 specified by the Central Government in a publication in the Official Gazette.

With the caveat that several dates may be set for various parts of this Act, and any reference to the commencement of this Act in a particular provision should be interpreted as a reference to that provision’s entry into force.
